Got Protest?!

04.10.06

Seattle DemonstrationThis happens to be one of the more amazing things I’ve seen in my time here in Seattle - an honest to goodness protest or demonstration that was supporting the efforts of our infamous President.  That’s right, Seattleites SUPPORTING our Republican President.  Reports put the total number of people at 10,000-20,000.  From watching the procession myself from the 26th floor of the Columbia Tower, the line of people must have been 2 to 3 miles long.  Starting in the International District, walking down Jackson St. and then up 4th Ave.

What is unfortunate was the timing.  This city has bad enough traffic as it is - throw 10-20k marching people into the 5:00pm rush hour and you can pretty much guarantee that no one is getting home in time for dinner.

So, do you have any thoughts on the current immigration legislation before congress?  I can’t say I know enough to post an honest opinion at this point, but I’d be curious to know if you do.

ExtraEight Update

04.10.06

Thought I would let everyone know that we picked up extra8.com yesterday.  Unfortunately an automated server registered .net and .org.  This just totally reminds me that the domain name system is totally a crap shoot when it comes to acquiring domains that are currently registered.  We will continue to use ExtraEight.com as our primary, but those who are lost and like to type a shorter address will be able to find us.

I am also in the middle of setting up email for each of the contributers.  I decided against Windows Live Custom Domains because they include adverts in the bottom of every email like hotmail does, they also require you to sign in every 30 days, only offer 250MB of storage after starting at 25MB, no RSS feed options, and no aliases.  While I like Windows Live Messenger much better, Windows Live Mail needs a lot of work before I think about using it again.  Google has a custom domain option, Gmail for your domain.  I would like to try it out, but I don’t think they offer domain aliasing, which would be a nice feature now that we have two different domain spellings.  Anyway, I continue to poke around at Squirrelmail and RoundCube to see if I can add IMAP to RSS feeds for simple email checking.
