This happens to be one of the more amazing things I’ve seen in my time here in Seattle - an honest to goodness protest or demonstration that was supporting the efforts of our infamous President. That’s right, Seattleites SUPPORTING our Republican President. Reports put the total number of people at 10,000-20,000. From watching the procession myself from the 26th floor of the Columbia Tower, the line of people must have been 2 to 3 miles long. Starting in the International District, walking down Jackson St. and then up 4th Ave.
What is unfortunate was the timing. This city has bad enough traffic as it is - throw 10-20k marching people into the 5:00pm rush hour and you can pretty much guarantee that no one is getting home in time for dinner.
So, do you have any thoughts on the current immigration legislation before congress? I can’t say I know enough to post an honest opinion at this point, but I’d be curious to know if you do.

So I might actually agree with Bush on this issue, I know it is insane but I think it might be happening. To me it is insane to turn illegal immigration into a felany, its not going to fix the root problem and it is going to cost us billions. If we really want to fix the immigration issue we should remove the motivation for coming north, and that for the most part is economic. Rather than spending billions chasing people around our country who are working, putting their kids through school and generally living the American Dream we should be spending the billions to do all we can to improve the economy of our neighbors to the south. Additionally I truly belive that most of the jobs currently filled by illegal imigrants are positions that most normal Americans would not take, that means that there is a very real economic upside to illegal immigration and craking down will actually hurt the us not help it. This is one of the most complicated issues around today, and my very simplified version does not do it justice, but I do know that simply kicking people out or throwing them in jail will not fix this problem. If in fact it really is a problem.
